According to Pennsylvania’s Dog Laws, all dogs over the age of 3 months are required to have a current license.  Is your pet licensed?  The technicians at Gilbertsville Veterinary Hospital get this question a lot so we thought we would share a little information on the topic with you.

Options for licensing include:

Yearly License the yearly license is effective from the time of purchase until the 1st of January the next calendar year.  You will not receive a reminder to renew your license, so the responsibility to renew the license is on the owner.  The application, along with the appropriate fee, is sent to the courthouse of the county in which the owner resides.  The application and fee may be brought to the treasury department in the courthouse of your respective county.

Lifetime License This license is effective from the time of application for the life of the dog.  To qualify for a lifetime license, the dog must be permanently identified with either a tattoo or microchip.  At Gilbertsville Veterinary Hospital we implant our canine patients with a HomeAgain Microchip.

If your pet already has a microchip you can schedule an appointment with us at (610)367-4744 or via our email [email protected] and one of our technicians to have your pet scanned for their microchip.  Once the technician identifies the microchip they are able to issue your pet with the lifetime dog license paperwork.

Where do I send my paperwork?  Make sure that your veterinarian has signed the paperwork for your lifetime dog license before you submit it.
