Dogs
Puppy
The doctors and staff of Gilbertsville Veterinary Hospital want to make sure your puppy receives the proper care during its lifetime. The following wellness plan outlines your puppy’s first few visits to the hospital and wellness visits as they mature.
Puppies are born with immature immune systems and require a series of vaccinations to help protect them from their environment. They are also prone to intestinal parasites which can either be passed from their mother or contracted from their environment. Fecal examinations are an important diagnostic tool that will help the doctors identify if your puppy has intestinal parasites. Please remember that all wellness plans may be altered depending on your pets’ individual needs.

Senior Wellness Dog
As dogs move into their senior phase of life, they experience changes that are very similar to aging humans. Diseases and conditions that are commonly known to affect older people also affect our canine companions (kidney, heart, and liver disease, tumors, cancer, diabetes, depression, arthritis, thyroid conditions, hormonal problems, neuroses and loss of sensory perception). Understanding these changes and how you can provide for your dogs needs are essential to their quality of life. Senior wellness exams can provide hidden answers to your dog’s overall health. Studies have shown that as many as 20% of senior dogs that appear healthy upon physical examination have an underlying disease. Once symptoms appear, the conditions may be too difficult or costly to diagnose or treat. A Semi-Annual Senior Wellness Exam can include laboratory tests so sensitive they can detect the onset of diseases and conditions early, when treatment and prevention is most effective.
